She met with Bellow as planned after having spent much of the night writing letters to her trading partners, doing what she could to catch up from her weeks in Highrock, and to mend the damages of missing so much without a designated proxy. They’d tolerated Colin unhappily, but they were furious at her for simply vanishing, those who even bothered to follow up with her. She gave her apologies as earnestly as she could, but there was little more to do than continue forward.

And not do it again.

Best if she could not do it again.

Fortunately, after years of being away for weeks and weeks at a time with little notice, she was getting better at making all of the arrangements of a sale the very moment she arranged the buy, and documenting that completely with her accountant and her warehouse managers such that a lot of things ran on their own.

It made for the obvious question: what was she adding to any of this that she could buy from one and sell to another and never see or handle the goods in the meantime, but her father had long told her that that knowledge required to do just that - as cleanly and as quickly as possible - was an uncommon one, which meant that the goods that she was trading would have taken much longer to get where they were going, without her, and they might not have made it at all. Where her sellers found her buyers and began working directly with them, she lost business, but some of them would actually come back to her and ask her to pick it back up again because the work of moving, handling, and storing those goods was more than they had an interest for. They would gladly pay her for it so that they didn’t have to think about it.

And so she did.

It wasn’t anywhere near as bad as it could have been, and a lot of the volume of correspondence waiting for her was men looking to make new connections with her. There was a lot of it that was trash, men who thought that they could charm her into going into partnerships with them, offering to do the hard work of negotiating and enforcing contracts, lifting those responsibilities off of her, offering to open up new markets she hadn’t even considered before, offering their great wealth of business experience to help her manage her newfound riches.

As though she’d come by her money without earning it entirely herself in the first place, just a victim of luck and good-positioning.

Some of these letters she read to Marvin and would laugh out loud, while others made her angry, but in the end she burned them all. Tesh told her, at one point, that they would ease off some once she was married, because many of these men would be trying to ingratiate themselves to her in order to convince her to wed, at which point they would gain control of her wealth.
